Human hair growth is similar to most cases of hair loss: in groups of strands. During the FUE process, the donor graft is harvested only on the surface, where the bond between the unit and the muscle fibers is tightest. The goal of the procedure is to loosen this bond and free it from the surrounding layer of the skin for easier removal of the needed section. Since the follicular unit is narrow, the surgeon or specialist should use micro cutting tools of only 0.6 to 1.0 mm in size. While this will still result in scars, they will be too small to be seen from afar.
The number of hair follicles that remain healthy following the surgery will determine its success. It would be observed that hair from the transplanted follicle will still fall because it takes time for individual threads to regrow. The restoration of an entire bald scalp may require a long time with several surgeries and months of recovery period in-between operations.
